We watched the San Diego Youth Orchestra practice in the pit. When I taught, my science classroom backed up to the band room. I could hear every practice through the wall. Sometimes the drums would practice and it sounded like dinosaur footsteps in the distance. It really did. Occasionally I had to teach over the noise but for the most part, I loved listening as the instruments tried to harmonize. It was easy to tell where it was in the semester by how well the music was played. The four of us watched as I did my best to describe the different sections, how the conductor kept time and what he was yelling at them. It was magical.
Two gold stars for Mars. One for courage to try out and a second for completing all the practice. But I'm taking one gold star away for signing me up to help tailor her costume.
Lauren claps! She watches her hands go together. She loved the music, lights and dancing. The Nutcracker is a long time for her to sit still but she did a great job.
